Elaine Warnatjura Lane

Elaine Warnatjura Lane is one of the original artists working with Tjanpi Desert Weavers and made her first basket in 1995. Born in 1954 near Mantamaru, she led a traditional life in the desert. She was one of the creators of the life-sized Tjanpi Grass Toyota that won the 22nd Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award in 2005. She is well-known for her baskets and life-sized tjanpi sculptures, and is still vigorously pursuing her art.

Janet Nuyunkanya Lane

Janet Warnatjura Nuyunkanya Lane was born in 1970 in the Warburton Ranges. She learnt to make tjanpi sculptures and baskets from her mother, Elaine Warnatjura Lane, an acclaimed tjanpi artist from the Papulankutja community. Since 2014 she has challenged herself to create new works drawing on the theme of endangered desert animals.
